Sometimes in situations it helps to try to find some good in what seems like only bad. I have searched and found silver linings in what seemed to be only dark clouds. Check out the doors that have opened when I thought it was just one closing in my examples below. It is all in how you look at things. Just like how Ken's mom has told him over the years: "It's not what happens to you, but how you handle it." Or was it, "You have the same pants to get glad in"? Either way, here are some examples of how I searched for some good in what was at first bad:
The bad news is, the first time a scorpion scampered across the room, it scared the begeebies outta me and I couldn't go to sleep until we found it and destroyed it. The good news is that I can know easily identify the sound of a scampering scorpion and after three years of dealing with them, I'm not nearly as fearful as I once was.
The bad news is, it can get as hot has 130+ degrees out in the sun. The good news is, it's never over 85 in our house and it is almost ALWAYS around 78 ... perfect!
The bad news is, toads and other critters come into our home every night. The good news is, they're always gone by morning.
The bad news is it rains. It rains, and it rains and it rains. The good news is, rainy weather is great for sipping a cup of tea and reading a good book. I have a lot of time for reading!!
The bad news is the many balsa trees on our property have seed pods that burst open and fall to the ground attached to puff balls. They now cover the yard with what looks like dust bunnies and they make me sneeze. The good news is, when they are falling, it looks like snow and that's the closest I'll ever get to a reminder of Kansas winters down here.
The bad news is, our new refrigerator was set too cold at first and it froze our eggs and a watermelon. The good news is, the beer was really good ice cold.
The bad news is, something is a tad not "right" with our plumbing and after a few "events" we've decided we should invest in a plunger. The good news is, for NOW, we still have and can use indoor plumbing.
More bad news regarding plumbing....
The sewer drain from my bedroom upstairs comes down and is visible over my kitchen counter downstairs. As if that isn't bad news enough ... I recently spotted a fern growing out of one of the "elbow joints." The good news is, I finally have that indoor hanging plant I've been wanting.
So, with every bit of bad news ... there should be some good news, that silver lining. Sometimes it just takes some serious looking before we find it. But I believe it usually can be found.
What GOOD can you see out of whatever situation is bad in your life today?
