I mentioned last week that the fall is the time of year when many new CD’s are released. Here is a list of a few more that I think will be worth looking into. Many of these artists will also be going out on tour in support of their new release.
1.‘Time the Conqueror’ by Jackson Browne-Jackson’s new CD is his first compilation of new material in 6 years. Jackson has always been the consummate singer/songwriter and still is. You can checkout his new look and clips of each song on his website. Click here:Jackson Browne Available September 23rd.
2.‘Break Up the Concrete’ by the Pretenders-Chrissie Hynde is back with her first studio album in 6 years. (Six seems to be the number.) She has a new young band apart from veteran drummer Martin Chambers. The album was recorded in 10 days, which means Chrissie was on a mission. You can go to the Pretenders website to download a free single from the album. Click here:The Pretenders Release date is October 7th.
3.‘Little Honey’ by Lucinda Williams-Lucinda, country singer/songwriter, is a very interesting person. I’m not personally enamored with her voice, but I do think she is quite unique in her style. She has amassed a devoted following which she truly deserves after 20 years of touring and recording in relative obscurity. A few years ago, a friend of mine went to see her open for Neil Young and didn’t stay to see Neil. That’s devotion. This new CD, out on October 14th, is more “rock & roll” and upbeat than her last album, because, they say, of her recent engagement to her manager. You can listen to several songs including, “Jailhouse Tears” featuring Elvis Costello at her website.

4.‘The Cosmos Rocks’ by Queen & Paul Rodgers. October 28th
5.‘Gift of Screws’ by Lindsay Buckingham. Out now in stores.
6.‘Covers’ by James Taylor. Release date September 30th
7.‘That Lucky Old Sun’ by Brian Wilson. Out now in stores.
8.‘Life, Death, Love, & Freedom’ by John Mellencamp. Out now in stores.
9.‘Mudcrutch’ by Mudcrutch (Tom Petty and his original band). Out now in stores.
10.‘Speak Low’ by Boz Scaggs. Release date October 28th
I’ll be reporting more as soon as I hear about them.
In closing, a week ago we received the sad news that Rick Wright, founding member and keyboardist for Pink Floyd died at age 65 and went on to that "Great Gig in the Sky". He will be sorely missed.
Until next time, rock on and be excellent to each other… Penny
