Uggs are everywhere but will they always be?
As I look at the winter wonderland outside my window, I can almost rest assured that when a female between the ages of one and 50 crosses my vision, she will be wearing a version of Uggs.
Teenage girls love them so much they're running around in their Ugg boots and mini skirts even in the summer! The malls of cold weather states are full of Uggs, copies of Uggs or Ugg-inspired booties ad infinitum.
When I first noticed Uggs, I thought they resembled primitive "puppets". Not much "design" or sophistication seemed evident so I never sought them for myself or my clients.
But lately (I began feeling for a feverish forehead!), I’ve begun to soften my stance.
Are my standards for footwear plummeting? Or do certain looks really “just grow on you”? Most of all, Uggs are comfy, practical and basically inexpensive. Like with the similar phenomena of “Crocs,” you begin to question your sensibilities.
I’ve enjoyed skiing and “après ski” clothes for years, and my boot of choice for the criteria previously mentioned has been by Technica. I love their durability, as well as their design. They are ever present in the Gorsuch catalogs and probably qualify as a classic of skiwear, not to mention they’re great for daily winter weather.
This year, while working on my new book, I grappled with the thought: Could Uggs actually end up as a classic? I included Technicas and Hunter boots but Uggs? I still am not convinced.
But I did buy a pair of their slippers for myself and my husband (love them) and am considering their gloves. I admired one of their down vests and wished I had bought their stock before it peaked!

Hi Sherrie,
I wear my Uggs religiously during the winter -- for orthopedic rather than fashion reasons. It's like walking around in my bedroom slippers. There's even room to insert orthotics, so I often use them in place of sneakers for long, cold winter walks. They're warm, toasty and comfy. Now that the warm weather is approaching, putting them back in the closet is the only thing I'll miss about the winter!
