Flipping out over the Olympics

I can't wait for the opening ceremonies of the Games of the XXIX Olympiad on Friday night in beautiful (albeit smog-burdened) Beijing. As luck would have it, I leave for vacation the next morning. (Can you say 'unfortunate timing'?) Now, I need to find a way to get my Oly's fix while on the road.

Getting out of town while throngs of returning college kids swarm the streets seemed like a good idea at the time. Who knew my much-anticipated holiday would coincide with my favorite athletic event - the one that occurs only once every four years!

Fortunately, I'm taking my trusty laptop and will be able to access the official Olympics Web site to catch up. NBC has created a great site, too, but a visit this morning reminded me of that pesky time zone problem - China is 12 hours ahead of us here in the States.

And, so, the big dilemma: Do I use the Internet to keep tabs on Dara Torres and Michael Phelps in "real time," thus spoiling the suspense of the evening's TV coverage? Or, do I make due with the late-night recap and call it good?

Either way, I know I'm going to miss some drama. And for a drama queen that lives for "the thrill of victory and the agony of defeat," that's hard to take.

I can say "unfortunately timing," but I'm wondering why I would. Is an edit needed here? Site looks great and I always enjoy reading your writing. Have a great vacation.

Thanks, worst! Good catch. I was debating between 'unfortunately timed' and 'unfortunate timing'... ah, the perils of speed blogging.
