As the world prepares for what's billed as "the most spectacular Olympic opening ceremonies ever" (I'm paraphrasing Matt Lauer here - he's seen it three times), I'm trying to get ready for a 9-day trip to Santa Fe and Taos, New Mexico and Creede, Colorado.
There is medicine to pick up at the pharmacy, clothes to wash, work stuff to get done, instructions to leave with my house-sitting daughter, itineraries to e-mail, and a dirty car to clean...and I have to get it all done before the opening ceremonies begin at 6:30 pm CDT. ('Can't WAIT to watch it on high def!) I'm starting to long for the days when I could throw a couple of things into a backpack and just hit the road.
This being a road trip, I am not limited in what I can pack. That's fortunate because my "default mode" when I can't decide what to pack is to PACK EVERYTHING!
Our journey tomorrow will end in Tucumcari, New Mexico, and I'm looking forward to passing through Greensburg, Kansas, the town that's rebuilding after being flattened by a horrific tornado. There will be other interesting sites along the way, and I'll share them with you right here - time and Internet connections permitting - as we travel along.
That is, IF I get everything done in time.
Happy 08.08.08 everyone!

If you get to SW Colorado, I'll be glad to share my washer and dryer!

Suzy, what a nice offer! I know I'll need to wash my exercise clothes, at some point, but I think our friends in Creede have facilities. It would be great to meet you, though! Thanks.
