According to this story in USA Today, the 57-year-old mother of Michael Phelps has become a fashion icon to the Chico's set. The company's Web site is even touting a "Debbie Phelps Collection" of ensembles she wore at her son's Olympic events. Apparently, customers are streaming into the stores, demanding the jackets and tops that Debbie wore in her many "proud mom in the stands" cutaways on TV.
Now, I've always had sort of a love-hate relationship with Chico's. Their clothes, as a rule, are just too pattern-y for me, although I do appreciate the fit of their size 2.5 pants. (What could be better than a sizing system that puts a girl like me in a "2" anything?)
But my preferences are beside the point. Here's an attractive yet ordinary-looking gal who's worked hard all her life - raising good kids on her own, teaching and working her way up to 'prinicipal' - who is finally getting her moment in the sun...and a bunch of free clothes, to boot!
That just makes me happy today.

sometimes I like Chico's clothes, but with
any store you have to chose what looks good on your body.
I never shop for any special brand in mind.
