FaceMaster experiment: Week one

"Before" (left) and "After" one week using Facemaster

I started testing the FaceMaster facial toning system on my own 52-year-old mug last Saturday. I've used the machine (endorsed by Suzanne Somers of ThighMaster fame) every day for seven days and, so far, I think I'm noticing some subtle changes.

As I explained on this introductory video, the FaceMaster uses two electronic probes to stimulate and tighten the muscles on the face. (Expect a real demonstration from me next week.) Think: facelift in a box, sans knives. The sensation is a lot like holding your hand too close to a sparkler on the Fourth of July, which took some getting used to (as did the constant eye-twitching), but my face did feel "worked out" at the end of each 15-minute treatment and I seemed to look more "awake" afterwards. (You would, too, if you applied electric shocks to your eyes.)

The 'before' and 'after' photos you see above (click on photo for full view) were taken on the camera in my laptop. I tried to achieve the same zombie-like expression in each, which was no easy task. (Being a lab rat is harder than I thought!)

At first glance, it appears my eyes might be open wider in the 'after' shot but, then again, I may just be holding them that way. The eyebrows seem a tad higher, the lips slightly fuller, and the jawline a little tighter in the 'after'. And, most noticeably, the corners of my mouth - appearing to turn downward 'before' - seem to have leveled themselves out 'after'. Or am I just seeing things?

Of course, real results - if there are any - won't be visible for another couple of weeks, so my semi-scientific experiment will continue. Stay tuned.

Now, if only I could find a machine that erases freckles.

And you are too kind, Penny. Thanks. But I'm really not sure "plumping up" aging face muscles is the way to go....

HA!!! That's exactly what I've been doing.... plumping up aging muscles! Do you think that thing would work on my waist?

I actually saw her demonstrate the FaceMaster on some TV show and was fascinated. I look forward to the after-after picture.

I think you are so cute because you're so willing to do all this stuff. You're not afraid to show your face close-up with no make-up, just to name one example. And that is really cute. You are a good role model for us BoomerGirls.

ps. I'm not implying you aren't wearing make-up here, but in the piece you did on skin, you weren't.

Cute!? This is serious, investigative journalism! Actually, for the record, I am wearing makeup here but I appreciate your comments. The nice thing about being 52 is not being afraid. Much.

Another quick note. On the Mayan calendar when you turn 52, you are starting over. It's the next cycle of your life when you become a child again. Born again, if you will.

I can't wait to see the demonstration! It sounds a little scary but what I want to know is can you use it on the neck? That's my ugly zone.

Margo, after re-reading my owner's manual, I learned that the FaceMaster is NOT recommended for the neck. In fact, in their FAQs, they practically beg you not to use it on the neck/throat area. Sorry about that!
