I like to host little parties throughout the year. It's a nice way to rekindle old friendships and make new acquaintances.
One of my favorite things to do is build a photo display of past holidays and meaningful events and turn my billiard room into an exhibition hall.
My guests seem to enjoy looking at old photos of me and the children as well as some vintage photos of my grandparents and yes, me and my siblings. The black-and-whites are the best!
At one of the events I played host for a brunch for some of my friends and business associates. It was a nice time to reflect on the past year and converse about plans for the upcoming year.
This was also the perfect time to celebrate my mother's 70th birthday. I pulled out all the stops for this event. I hired chef Karl Greene to cook up a scrumptious brunch for all the ladies. The menu included salmon, cheese grits, French toast, omelets, Chicken Rolande, rice pilaf and a flamed dessert, to name a few.
This was a nice reprieve - and watching a chef create a little magic in my kitchen was a lot of fun. Unfortunately my mom's flight was canceled due to bad weather and we had to carry on without her.
I'll throw her another party real soon. And if family genes have anything to do with it, she'll probably be celebrating her 100th birthday someday.
Heck, my great aunt is 104 and she's still playing the piano. The residents at the nursing home swear her hair color is turning black again.
