It was 1967. I was in seventh grade. They turned off all the house lights in the theatre for the last fifteen minutes of the movie. When the bad guy lunged from the dark for poor, blind Audrey Hepburn, my friend, Susie, screamed and hurled an entire box of Jujubees up in the air. For the next few minutes, we could hear those little hard candies bouncing, like so many marbles, from the last row of the balcony all the way down to the front.
"Wait Until Dark" was one scary movie. I loved it. Still do.
If you're one of those people who likes to frighten herself silly on Halloween, consider renting this one. (Just don't try eating Jujubees during the picture.)

The movie that scared me the most when I was young (probably 8-9) was, "The Tingler." Anybody remember that one? William Castle movie with Vincent Price. They had the seats rigged in the theatre to buzz and vibrate when they showed 'the tingler.' It was all black and white until they showed any blood. Scared the living daylights out of me. Couldn't sleep for weeks. I've seen it in the last few years and it's pretty cheesy.

I saw The Tingler on TV when I was very young, probably 7-8. My brother was baby sitting me and pretty much scared me to death with that movie. I remember the end being so frightening. Well, just a few years ago when my brother was here for the holidays we rented The Tingler to show our teen kids. We told them how scary it was. Talk about a joke. We all did nothing but laugh through the whole movie! Cheesy is exactly right.

OK, gotta weigh in on this one. My scariest movie adventure as a child was "Mr. Sardonicus" - couldn't even stay in the theater for the whole thing!
As an adult, my scariest movie was "Alien", the 1st one; I think I watched most of it from between my third and fourth fingers, which were over my eyes! And that scene where the critter jumped outta John Hurt's chest - I literally jumped out of my chair! My (then) husband said he could see light between my butt and the seat!

Would you believe I have never heard of "The Tingler"? Where was I? My husband caught air like that, cariedaway, during "Jaws." I was so scared but laughing hysterically at this 6'3" hulk of a guy, jumping out of his seat like a cartoon character.
